The Great Unconformity Cleanup

December 11, 2021 | 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Join us #Outdoors for a cleanup on Saturday, December 11th from 9am-11am at the Great Unconformity geological site. We will be meeting at the top of E. Lake Mead Blvd just past Los Feliz Street, for an epic cleanup of this popular hiking spot.  Volunteers can look forward to walking approximately 1 mile on rugged terrain preserving this local geological gem by picking up trash around the trailhead.  We will provide all the tools and supplies for the cleanup including gloves and trash grabbers. Volunteers should wear sturdy closed toed shoes and long pants. Registered volunteers will be emailed the event details and meeting spot map 48 hours prior to the event.

An Unconformity is a surface of rock that was exposed on the Earth’s surface and then covered by younger layers. This Unconformity represents missing intervals of the geologic record, like pages gone missing from a book. The Great Unconformity represents about 1.2 billion years, which is more than one fourth of the age of the Earth.

We are following health and safety recommendations by the CDC and the Governor’s office. Get Outdoors Nevada staff will continue to wear face coverings at event check-in and during interactions with volunteers. We continue to make the safety of all our volunteers and staff members the number one priority.

Space is limited and registration is required. Event details and the waiver for minors will be emailed 48 hours prior to the event.

We look forward to you joining us for a great morning beautifying our community spaces!
