June 7, 2022 | 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Join this one day workshop to learn how to set up and conduct a field trip to Desert National Wildlife Refuge. We’ll cover logistics and standards based activities. This is a free course, and eligible teachers will receive 2 CU’s.
Activities and lessons in this workshop are connected to 3rd through 5th grade standards.
Participants will investigate the ecology at Corn Creek, a part of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge. Through immersive activities, teachers will understand the purpose of the Refuge, the dynamic relationships between plants and animals within the refuge, threats to the environment, and much more. Activities are mostly focused on science but also include physical education, English language arts, and health. Teachers will learn and practice both pre and post field trip lessons and activities, as well as, activities to facilitate with students at the site.
Participants will begin their workshop at the Visitor Center at Corn Creek. Teachers will utilize the trail system at the site during the workshop. Much of the day will be outside and on a trail. Walking shoes, water, sunscreen/ hat are strongly recommended.
