Alternative Summer Break
August 1, 2022 - August 5, 2022
Friends Of Nevada Wilderness first ever Alternative Summer Break in the Spring Mountains! This trip will begin Monday, August 1 and ends Friday, August 5, 2022.
New to the outdoors? This is a great opportunity to build your confidence in your camping skills, meet new people, and learn more about what it means to be a steward for the wild! For more information about the Alternative Breaks program, please visit our Alternative Breaks page. You can also browse this photo album from our 2022 Alternative Spring Break in Gold Butte National Monument.
Our Alternative Breaks are our flagship stewardship program in Southern Nevada. Each multi-day experience is completely unique and features guest experts, hands-on stewardship and conservation work, delicious meals, and scrumptious desserts! This is one of the best ways available to experience camping, hiking, and volunteering in the Spring Mountains, especially if you haven’t had many or any opportunities to do so before!
Friends of Nevada Wilderness can loan you a tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping pad, as we introduce you to the Great Outdoors! We provide meals, including gourmet hot camp dinners and dutch oven desserts nightly. Friends has all of the tools, protective equipment, and know-how to help you help us help the Spring Mountains this summer.
We’ll have an informational meeting two weeks before we depart to discuss all the nitty-gritty details of what we’ll be doing, but here are the basics:
We will meet at UNLV on August 1 and return there on August 5. In between we’ll be improving trail conditions on the Mud Springs Loop near Lee Canyon, visiting and surveying springs in the Mack’s Canyon area of the Spring Mountains, and learning from local experts about the cultural, ecological, and professional aspects of conservation in the Spring Mountains.
Please contact Peter Sbraccia at peter@nevadawilderness.org or (702) 515 5417 with any questions or for more information! RSVP today, space is limited!
